It was barely an hour before Onome showed up with her parents at school. Assembly time was over so they headed for the principal's office. "Good morning ma." Onome greeted while her parents stood behind. "Onome! What happened to you?" The principal exclaimed, seeing the slight cut on her head. Onome put her head down and mumbled inaudibly. "I fell down ma." She responded. Her parents by this time, felt uneasy. "Em...good morning ooo..na we be Onome papa and mama. She say you won see us." Onome's Dad quickly came in. The principal's attention was diverted. "Oh! Pardon my manners. You are welcome, have a seat please." She replied.

The Wailing Creatures  W ritten by Sumayyah Oluwafunbi Ogunsola     With a big smile on and shiny gleaming teeth plastered on my sweaty face, I step inside the dusty building with the big bold inscription: ‘ WELCOME TO THE ZOO!’  As I walk around with my black heels making a pit-pat, click-clack sound, my eager brown irises get locked in a trance with the brownish red Hawaiian bird.       That’s NOT my Father!       Sumayyah Oluwafunbi  Ogunsola              It’s a bleak, dark late evening accompanied by torrent of rain and the howling of the wind; the power is out. My father and I sit down in the parlour, looking at each other and sighing in disappointment, as our fun day out was ruined. I glance at our pet cat, Tata, to see that she is fast asleep.               Exasperated, my father launches himself on the sofa and says to me, “I am going to get Starbucks. Wait for me.” Worried, I respond “In the rain, and at this time, dad? You have heard how dangerous people lurk in the cloak of darkness...” He cuts me off.
