I think my most memorable punishment was when I was asked to pray for 1 hour, to ask for forgiveness from God because I slept off during family devotion.

The most Memorable Punishment I got from my mother was when I was given a plate of rice, and I cried, and told my mum that it won't be enough for me. My mother told me that i should finish that one in my plate, first and if I am not okay, she will give me another one....But i told her "No".. that I want her to add to it before I will eat the plate of rice.. and my mother got angry, and brought down the pot of Rice and asked me to finish it, and warned me that, if didn't finish it, I will see hell..
I was happy, and I started eating, I ate to the point that my stomach was filled was hurting so bad that I started to cry. My mother stood in front of me, and warned that if I stop eating, she will finish me, my Daddy joined the conversation, and he was in support of my Mum. I couldn't stand up from that position until they had to apply Kerosene on my stomach for me to be able to move..
That is the most memorable punishment in my life, and afterwards I have remained contented with whatever quantity of food I am given.

When I was about 14, going on 15yrs my mother sent me to the market (which was a bit distant from where we lived) with enough money for transportation, but trust the sharp, energetic, and athletic me. I thought to save some money to buy some nice sandals for school to oppress, and impress my friends 🤩🤩, so I decided to walk all the way to the market and back as fast as my legs could carry me. I said to myself, after all, it will take a little while to walk to the bus stop which draws me closer to the market.
On my way, I had two stops to visit my friends, and was able to convince one of them to go with me. This, of course made me take longer time than necessary.
While on my way to the market, I was oblivious of time, but getting closer to the house, I suddenly remembered that I was supposed to be home earlier than when I did, and I began to sweat, thinking about excuses, and lies to tell to save my poor ***🤣🤣
Trust our mothers those days, especially my no-nonsense, strict traditional mom... although I am her last child, and my older siblings accuse her of over pampering and spoiling me, I saw it differently infact, I thought she hated me and was too hard like I was a maid, you know.
"What took you so long? Why are you just returning? don't you know that I was supposed to start dinner early? What is wrong with you? Senseless girl like you. As the questions were coming, so were her hands and slippers pouncing on me. I received the beating of my life that day.
After dinner, my mom still asked to know exactly what kept me as she didn't wait for me to answer any of her questions earlier. Then, I replied..
" I... I ehm... passed by them NK and Caro's house, and we trekked to the market, that is why I came back late."
"And why would you trek when I gave you money for your fare? My mom asked. So I told the story that my school sandals were bad, and I wanted to replace them, but didn't want to bother them by asking.
Guess what? Sweet story, but my mom was the least impressed. I received more beating, but got new sandals for telling the truth. However, it is one experience I would live to always remember
Till this date, it is fresh in my mind, and it helps keep fond memories of my mom

Well in this incident, it wasn't that I was trashed, but rather I avoided trashing, and in the process learned a valuable lesson. Here goes!
When i was a lot younger before I was ten years old I was shorter than my immediate junior sister, so coupled with her tom boyish behavior she used to challenge my authority at times. On a particular Saturday we fought, and I punched, or may I say, beat her. In the process. When my "no nonsense Dad" returned home, she reported me to him, and rather than take my sides (because I felt I had a strong case), he rebuked me, and asked me to kneel down. His words were "no matter what happens, never hit a lady". I was shocked. The intention was to trash me so while sitting down (since he just returned) he put on the radio, because Nigeria's under 17 team had a match with the Soviet Union at Darman, Saudi Arabia. At the time he he had returned, we were 4-0 down. Before he settled down we were 4-2. At the time he was prepared to face me it was 4-3. Amazed, and excited he asked me to get up and let's finish the match. He however warned me that as men we don't hit ladies, and my responsibility was to protect my sister. I was saved that day, interestingly Nigeria won the match, and i have never forgotten that match. Till date, I have kept those words even in marriage, and I am instructing my son in the same way...
