As they walked along, Abigail and her mother approached a big tree. "Mami, let's rest here for a while, please." Abigail suggested. They stayed under the tree as they managed to catch their breath. "Mami, are we not there yet? It's almost mid day and I'm hungry." Abigail complained. Her Mother looked sideways. "em...e remain small. After this junction, na the second to last one." Her Mother said. For Abigail, that did not sound so consoling as she could no longer bear the hunger. Just as they remained still, thinking about the journey ahead, came a loud sound from afar. It became close by the second until a troupe of musicians were in sight. They had their big drums, trumpets and drums sounding very loud as the singers sang sonorously. Abigail and her Mother watched the Dancers as they displayed their acrobatics. It was a very entertaining performance and at that moment, there were more spectators. As the display continued, one of the Dancers danced for a while and began to head towards Abigail and her Mum's direction. Immediately Abigail noticed, she held on to her Mother's hands and was restless for a second. The Make Dance stood in front of Abigail and beckoned on her to come along with him. Abigail was startled and embarrassed. She declined but the Make Dancer insisted. Abigail turned to her mother. "My Pikin just follow am nau..abi na just to dance small?" Abigail's Mother said. Left without more options and seeing all eyes were on her, she followed the Dancer and they both began to dance to the rhythm of the band. The spectators began to cheer!

The Wailing Creatures  W ritten by Sumayyah Oluwafunbi Ogunsola     With a big smile on and shiny gleaming teeth plastered on my sweaty face, I step inside the dusty building with the big bold inscription: ‘ WELCOME TO THE ZOO!’  As I walk around with my black heels making a pit-pat, click-clack sound, my eager brown irises get locked in a trance with the brownish red Hawaiian bird.       That’s NOT my Father!       Sumayyah Oluwafunbi  Ogunsola              It’s a bleak, dark late evening accompanied by torrent of rain and the howling of the wind; the power is out. My father and I sit down in the parlour, looking at each other and sighing in disappointment, as our fun day out was ruined. I glance at our pet cat, Tata, to see that she is fast asleep.               Exasperated, my father launches himself on the sofa and says to me, “I am going to get Starbucks. Wait for me.” Worried, I respond “In the rain, and at this time, dad? You have heard how dangerous people lurk in the cloak of darkness...” He cuts me off.
