"eh..hen! My pikin welcome o!" Someone voiced out from behind and Abigail turned around. She realized it was her mother, then she hurriedly ran forward and embraced her. "Ah! Mami(My Mother.)How long have you been here?" Abigail exclaimed. "Ah! e don tey o! e don reach one hour." Abigail's mother replied. "So sorry ma. I just stepped out to get some groceries. As if I knew you would be here today, I even got your Favorite drink." Abigail said as she brought out a can of fruit drink from the items Ada had given her. "Ah! Thank you my pikin. Hmmm! The drink cold well well o!" Abigail's mother exclaimed as she quickly opened and sipped the drink. "So Mami how is everybody at home?" Abigail asked and her mother suddenly dropped the can of drink as her countenance changed.😔 Abigail could not help but notice thus, she quickly carried the luggage and beckoned on her mother to follow her to the house. Few hours later, Abigail and her mother sat to eat. "Mami are you enjoying the meal?" Abigail asked as she watched her mother earnestly. After a momentary silence, her mother responded. "Hmmm! My Pikin this soup sweet well well o! and e pepper." Abigail's mother said and she was more than delighted. "Thank you Mami." Abigail replied cheerfully. As soon as they finished their meal, Abigail drew herself closer to her mother. After a while, she spoke. "Mami, what is wrong? I notice you're not happy. Kilode?(What is it?)" She asked. Her mother looked at her and just shook her head.

The Wailing Creatures  W ritten by Sumayyah Oluwafunbi Ogunsola     With a big smile on and shiny gleaming teeth plastered on my sweaty face, I step inside the dusty building with the big bold inscription: ‘ WELCOME TO THE ZOO!’  As I walk around with my black heels making a pit-pat, click-clack sound, my eager brown irises get locked in a trance with the brownish red Hawaiian bird.       That’s NOT my Father!       Sumayyah Oluwafunbi  Ogunsola              It’s a bleak, dark late evening accompanied by torrent of rain and the howling of the wind; the power is out. My father and I sit down in the parlour, looking at each other and sighing in disappointment, as our fun day out was ruined. I glance at our pet cat, Tata, to see that she is fast asleep.               Exasperated, my father launches himself on the sofa and says to me, “I am going to get Starbucks. Wait for me.” Worried, I respond “In the rain, and at this time, dad? You have heard how dangerous people lurk in the cloak of darkness...” He cuts me off.
