RECREATING A STORY FROM DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS... By E PLUS The Storyteller. (I have a special name for this narrative, if you really want to know what I call it, send a message to 07081536821.)
So let's focus on the theme of this discourse. Apart from creating a story from that original idea, you can actually recreate more stories, as the ideas keep expanding from different dimensions. This could be from the beginning, middle or end of the story hence creating a twist to the narrative.
Remember, the emphasis here is to recreate a story from an already existing story, thus the intention is not to discard it, rather it's to establish or introduce new concepts and ideas.
You might want to still maintain the characters, the locations, the theme and other elements in the story however, changes could be reflected in the plots or vice versa. The Creative explorations are inexhaustible. Now, let's get practical.
Read the Story below, then follow the instructions as we journey into the Creative Writing World of Storytelling!
Yesterday, Emeka and I, went to a gift shop to get something for his elder sister, in celebration of her birthday.
We were still looking out for what we like when three young men stormed the shop.
"Ehn..ehn! Look at her over there!" One of them said, as he pointed at me.
"So, it's true? Ada, this is where you are, abi? And we have been searching the entire town, for you!" The second one yelled.
At this point, Emeka and I quickly exchanged glances. We were still unsure of what was going on. To say the least, I was speechless! Then, the eldest one led the others to us. As he attempted to grab my hands, Emeka threw a punch at him, and immediately he fell to the floor.
There was pandemonium and all hell was let loosed! The other boys began to lament.
"Ah! You want to kill our brother, abi? After capturing our sister for months now!"
Emeka moved closer as he had become very provoked. I tried to pacify him but all to no avail, as he was ready to throw more punches.
"Ada! Ada! You better come with us now! Papa is seriously ill because of you. Why are you doing this now? Everybody is worried! See what you have caused now! This man almost killed your brother!" They continued to lament. Immediately I reacted.
"Wait! Who is Ada? I think there is a mix up here. My name is Cynthia, and this is my fiance, Emeka. We don't know any Ada o!" I explained, as I brought out my identity card as a proof. They took it, looked at it for a while, then exchanged glances.
"Chineke!" The elderly one on the floor, exclaimed.
"Wait o! This is Ada" He responded as he brought out a picture of Ada and her brothers standing by a pool. Quickly, Emeka took the picture, and we both stared at it!
"Wow! This is unbelievable!" Emeka exclaimed. Immediately I set eyes on the picture, I heaved a heavy sigh and passed out...

Paper, pen and Action! ...but, wait! You seem to have something on your mind, and you are pondering, you are in a place where you think those ideas need thorough processing, and more depths. Hmmmm.. time to brainstorm!
The question is: How do you go about this, without necessarily going off the track? Click here to read more.
One of the negatives you must get rid of while writing, is the act of 'Over deliberation': This is an act of not giving your story a chance to develop or breathe. For example you might set out to Write about 'Corruption', however, Corruption is tied to so many factors that can be highlighted in your story, sometimes these factors might even be abstract, e.g Beauty, fame e.t.c
Remember, execution, interpretation, presentation and delivery is key!
And this leads to the next point
While brainstorming, expand the scope of your story while maintaining your theme- this still helps you to stay on track and eventually keep your audience connected to the message.
Equip yourself with basic skills of developing a story as your lines transit progressively, that is if you have to become a professional in the act of Creative Writing...
Develop a good reading culture, even if it means reading outside your preferred genre- remember knowledge is everywhere and not exclusive.
Be flexible with your characters- for example, the doctor character in your story can be the next character to save that old woman from being attacked by hoodlums. In Creative Writing, you are allowed to spring up surprises: such twist adds colour to the narrative.
Avoid stereotypes, break the norm of giving certain attributes to certain characters. For example, there is nothing wrong with your male character pounding yam at home, while his wife is washing the car. Such scenarios are not common in narratives of today.
Most importantly, avoid unnecessary pressure (Yes! There are actually pressures that are necessary.) to perform. Creative Writing is all about inspiration, and inspiration is everywhere. Just ensure you look inward and connect with your surroundings.
