 My Palm Oil Stew and Rice...Written by E PLUS The Storyteller

Sunday was quite a significant day in my house owing to the regular visits by our family friend, the Oyenekes.

So my parents always ensured that by Saturday, the fridge is stocked to the brim. Mummy had a way of really making Sundays, very special! However, on this particular Sunday, I wanted something extra special for lunch, thus I had arranged my own ingredients to cook my 'Special Palm oil Stew and Rice"😋.  As soon as we had all returned from Church Service, I dashed to the kitchen before mummy would occupy everywhere😆

      No one had an idea of my plans but before I could say 'Jack', our visitors had arrived and I could hear steps heading for the kitchen door.

"Ah Ahn! Onome! How are you? So it is you that is harassing our nose with this mesmerizing aroma! Chai! Looks like you want to give us a special treat today?" Mrs Oyeneke exclaimed as soon as she walked into the kitchen.
   The woman sure has a way of exhibiting her tatafo sha!!! I just tire for the woman! I turned to her, and responded with a smile as I stirred my palm oil stew, apparently her curiousity had gotten the better part of her when she peeped into the pot, no be small tin o!

"Oh! Palm Oil Stew! This is really Good! Can't wait to taste it." Mrs Oyeneke exclaimed further. My head just spun around three sixty degree! You can imagine! This woman no even know say my budget and plan for the food na strictly for my enjoyment!

"Hmm...can't wait too!" I managed to respond with a forced smile.

"Ah! i I can see you already made your way to the kitchen😀, looks like today's hunger ehn!" My mum teased Mrs Oyeneke as she joined us in the kitchen.

"Yes o my friend! Not even with the kind of aroma coming from your daughter's Palm Oil Stew, it's been a while I had some with rice." Mrs Oyeneke exclaimed. Quickly, my mum peeped into the pot as she sniffed into the air.

"Ehn ehn? So this is the surprise! No wonder! I noticed the way she dashed into the kitchen as soon as we returned..I see the cat has been let out of the bag! Oya! Hurry up oo! let us have a taste!" Mummy declared.

I couldn't believe my eyes😗

Like play, like play, na so dem take finish my Palm Oil Stew and Rice o! One grain of rice, my eye no see! Not to talk of taste sef! 😥 I just tire!

It was almost midnight, exactly 11.30pm when Onome's dad arrived. By this time, Onome and her mum had fallen asleep. Onome's dad staggered towards the door and knocked for a while. By this time, the neighbours could hear the deafening banging at the door. They tossed and turned on their beds while trying to bear the noise.

"Mama Onome, I say open this door before I break am!" He shouted.

Immediately, Onome's mother shut the door to avoid being seen by any one who might just be passing by. She moved her husband away from the door path and she tried lifting him up to his feet but he was very weighty.

"Na which kind thing be this na? If I live you like this nau, them go say I wicked." Onome's mother said as she looked helpless. Onome overhead her mum in her sleep and that woke her up. She saw her mum murmuring.

"Mama, na wetin happen again?" Onome asked.

"Na your papa na! You know see as him don drink finish?" Onome's mum replied as she hissed. 

Then, Onome noticed that her dad was on the floor. She thought to herself

"When would all these end?"

"Abeg come make we try carry am."_ Onome's mother said.

"Mama make I go wake them Kevwe?" Onome suggested.

"Oya, go wake them na, if dem answer you. You know say all of dem with your papa na the same thing!"_ Her mum replied. Onome hurriedly went to the next room to wake up her eldest brother...
