DICEY(PART 5) Written by E PLUS The Storyteller.
"Em..not really! I just need you to leave now, something just came up... It's quite urgent." I managed to say something. Steve took a keen look at me like it was hard for him to believe what I had just said, but I guess he just wanted to be cooperative. He smiled, and headed for the door.
"Good night!" He said.
"Good night, Steve." I replied, and I could sense a tone of heaviness in his gesture. Everything had become weird, one minute I had asked Steve to be at my house, the next minute I sent him away in a hurry! Definitely, that was weird.
In less than a three minutes, Mike arrived, looking all stressed out as he just sat helplessly on the couch. I stood there, and watched him for a while. Without saying a word, he headed for the fridge, and stared then he turned to me.
"And where is my Orange juice?" He asked.
"It's finished, you can manage the Apple drink." I replied. After fussing a bit, Mike settled for the Apple drink. Just watching Mike stress out made me quite curious, yet I was glad he did not bump into Steve, I couldn't even imagine his reaction! While I sat there, anticipating some kind of response, my phone beeped as a text message was sent to my phone. I decided to check it later.
"So, aren't you going to read the message?" Mike said as his attention was drawn to it.
'Which message?" I asked.
"Your phone just beeped, isn't that a text message?" Mike insisted.
"Come on, Mike! Do you know what the time is?" I exclaimed.
"What has that go to do with anything?" Mike replied. Then I paused for a moment, trying not to get upset. Mike continued to stare at my phone, and it almost appeared like he wanted to snatch it off my hands.
"So, it's true?" Mike echoed. At that moment, I became nervous, and wasn't sure what he was making reference to, but I did not respond.
"Now I know better." Mike continued. This time, I decided to respond.
"Know what Mike?" I reacted.
"You're so secretive! Maybe it's one thing about you that I haven't even noticed, until recently. Mike lamented. Immediately I gasped out of cheer relief. I moved close to Mike, and held his hands gently, as I looked at him.
"Mike, there's nothing to be afraid of." I said.
"Are you sure?" Mike asked.
"Positive." I replied. Then he heaved a sigh.
"So, you said over the phone that there is something urgent you need to tell me, what is it?" I probed. Mike remained silent for a while before responding as he looked at me.
"I have just been promoted to a manager, and I will be heading my own unit now!" Mike announced as his face lit up with a smile.
"Wow! This is good news! Congratulations!" I exclaimed as we hugged each other.
"I think this calls for celebration so I will be taking you to somewhere exclusive, tomorrow." Mike said with excitement.
"Okay, that will be great" I replied, stealing glances at my phone as more messages kept coming in. Mike stayed for quite a while before leaving. As soon as he was gone, I opened my message box on my phone, and saw countless messages from Steve. He wanted to come see me at the office, the next day!
