BREAKING NEWS!

“Reports have it that the youths of Kolobri have taken over the entire community, and this time around, it appears there is no turning back. This action comes on the premise of failed promises by the government to address the incessant pollution of the community caused by multinational oil companies. At the time of this report, the entire state house has been thrown into confusion. It looks like this is going to be a very long day,” the news filtered through the airwaves in the early hours.

“Ochuko! Shey you dey hear? Make you try come back quick o! Just go drop the bags of fish wey I say make you give Mama Laye, then run come back house. No go join people wey dey protest o!” Mama Ochuko warned.

“But Mama, how things go change if everybody siddon for house?” Ochuko lamented.

“So you dey challenge my instruction? Try am first… just try am first. Make I hear say you join that protest, then you go tell me whether na you be my mama or na me!” Ochuko’s mother snapped.

Gradually, the protest spread beyond Kolobri into neighbouring communities, and pandemonium erupted everywhere.

“Son, it’s time to let you in on the deeper sides of the affairs of this administration,” President Dapo Makinde said to Demola, who stared at him curiously.

“Father, you have my attention,” Demola responded.

“Actually, I have been waiting for this moment, and I believe you are ready for the next phase of your responsibility as my heir to the presidency,” President Dapo Makinde stated.

“Father, what would you have me do?” Demola asked.

“In a minute or two, you will be led to my inner chambers—my circle of associates—who will welcome you into the deep secrets and powers of this administration, here and beyond,” President Dapo Makinde stressed. He then beckoned Demola to stand up.

Immediately, a tall, fierce-looking guard stepped in and led both father and son into a room.

Amidst the chants of the angry youths of Kolobri outside the state house, Honourable Warebi panted restlessly in his office as he paced back and forth. Pondering his next move, he reached for his phone and dialed the president’s number. The phone continued to ring, but there was no response. He paused for a moment.

“Honourable, I think this is where we should call the SFA force,” Harrison, his assistant, suggested.

“No! No… no… please, let’s not escalate this. You know this is a very sensitive period. We need to win the confidence of the people, especially the youths,” Honourable Warebi said.

“Hmmm… I get you, Honourable. But it appears things are about to get out of control,” Harrison lamented.

“Let’s all remain calm. I’m still trying to reach the president,” Honourable Warebi reassured, redialing the president’s number for the umpteenth time.

Just then, the sound of explosions rang out, and everyone in the state house scampered for safety.
