THE POOR BOY and THE KING... A story by E PLUS the Storyteller.

                           One day...

The king fell very ill
and he called for his herbalist
After all enquiries
There was still, no solution.

Then the people of the village panicked!
but there was a poor boy who lived down the street
He heard of the king's illness and decided to visit the king at the palace..
The guards saw him and were outraged.

"What are you doing here, you wretched fellow?" They interrogated.

"I come in peace, I am just concerned about the king's health, everyone is talking about it. Only if....."

"Shut up! How dare you walk in here and begin to talk! Don't you have courtesy?" The Chief guard shouted at the poor boy.

"...only if...."

"I say shut up! Are you deaf?" The Chief guard interrupted the poor boy as he tried to talk.

"Guards! Let's bundle this wretched boy out of this place!" The  chief guard ordered the rest.

Quickly, the poor boy was sent out of the palace.

Few days later, the king 's illness grew worse and he summoned that he should be taken to the nearby village for special treatment. On their way, he spotted the poor boy lying frail on the floor. The king looked closely and realised that he was too weak to stand up, he was moved, then he asked that the driver of the cart wheel, stop by.

"Young man, why are you lying on the floor?" The king asked.

The poor boy looked up and realised it was the king, then his countenance, lit up immediately.

"Hmm..long live the king! Indeed this is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!" The boy exclaimed.

The king was quite taken aback by the poor boy's  gesture, he appeared quite strengthened, all of a sudden.

"My king, I know you have been seeking for solution to your illness, and that is why i visited the palace, few days ago to give you a message from the Lord." The Poor boy exclaimed.

Quite, attentive, the king beckoned on him to continue.

"I'm listening" The king said.
"Since, I was denied access to you, my King, I decided to pray about it." The poor boy said.

The king became, even more intrigued.

"And.. why do you care?" The King inquired curiously. The poor boy hesitated for a moment before speaking.

"My King, remember when you passed by, sometime ago, and shared fruits for the people of this village? Actually, I was lucky to have some. Eventually, after eating the fruits I discovered that the seed looked like the same seed my aunt used in treating very severe illnesses before she passed on.
So the spirit of the lord asked that I  present it to you, at least, if only you can try it out." The Poor boy said. The king grew anxious.

"Hmmm..where are the seeds now?" The King asked. The poor boy brought them out of a small bottle and gave it to the king.

"Hmmm..this is a really tiny seed, how come you kept it for so long?" The king asked curiously.

"Well, I intended giving my aunt but she died before I could see her again, so I decided to keep it, hoping that one day, I would plant it when I get my own land or house." The poor boy said.

"..and may I ask why you are homeless?* The king continued to inquire.

"It's a long story my King! Since I lost my parents, my relations kicked me out."  The king, looked at the tiny seed again, then spoke.

"Hopefully, this seed will be the solution to my illness. I am willing to try it." The king said.

"Hopefully, my King" The poor boy echoed.

That day, the king decided to cut short, his trip. He returned to the palace and ordered that the seed, should be grinded and mixed with his meal. Weeks later, the king asked the guards to accompany him to the site, where they had met the poor boy.

On arrival, they met the poor boy moving out his few items. He was quite unaware of the king's presence, and the king paused and watched him for a while.

"My friend.. are you going away?"
The King inquired.

Quite startled, the the poor boy stood still.

"My King, the storm is coming and I need to move to a place where I won't be affected. I'm just a homeless poor boy who moves with the wind, today I am here, next moment, I am in another place ." He lamented soberly.

The king moved closer and held his hands.

"Thanks for saving my life! I took the seed you gave me, and the illness, is all gone!" The king said. Then the poor boy's eyes twinkled with joy.

"Oh! My King! This is great news!" He exclaimed.

"Yes! Even greater, is the news I have brought to you." The King said.

The poor boy became more attentive.
"You don't need to move away, I have always longed for a son, and I know you will make a good one. Join me in my kingdom, and let's live as a happy family. The Queen awaits your arrival." The king proposed.

For a moment, the poor boy was numb, because he thought it was all a dream! Then he fell to the ground and held on to the king's robe, with tears profusely rolling down his cheeks.

"My King, words are not enough to describe my gratitude, I will be more than satisfied to even be at the gate of your palace..this is way too much for me." He exclaimed.

The king smiled and pulled him up.  "You deserve much more.. let's head on, now. A feast awaits your arrival" He said.

                         THE END!
