Angela Itambo

Thank you

E PLUS The Storyteller

Angela Itambo is a name to reckon with in Business the World, particularly with regards to giving direction to Business Profiles and Structures, can you please tell us more?

Angela Itambo

Thank you for having me, first and foremost my name is Angela Ihunweze, and the name of my firm is Angela Itambo company. I am a trained business management and marketing practitioner with over two decades in the profession. Right from when I was in the university, I have always excelled in providing advisory with regards business structure and management. As entrepreneurs,it is essential we structure our business for growth and sustainability which is critical in the present global business arena.

E PLUS The Storyteller: Would you say that Most entrepreneurs are getting it right in their business structures?

Angela Itambo

In Nigeria, No! Because business structure is not only about registering your business. It's about creating the structures that seperate the owner from the business. Most MSMEs, especially those on the micro level structure own businesses but have not been able to differentiate or make a separation between their business and their personal living standards so, No! However, I think with the advert on the internet, people are getting to see global best practices with regards to running their businesses.

Angela Itambo Training Session.

In the year, 1999, when the then President Obasanjo came into power and he wanted to help MSMEs, it was said that banks should give 10% of their profits and use it to fund MSMEs, and then their was a virtual capital move by the banks, and prior to that time if you wanted to get a fund from the bank, you were told to write a visibility report to just show that the business you're going into is profitable but when the then President Obasanjo Civilian Administration came into power, they said:

No! We don't want visibility report, we want business plan because you can show that the business is profitable on paper but we want to see what is your plan in ensuring that what is on paper, becomes actualised.

And alot of people were told to write their business plans. Now we  found out that alot of people were not aware of what Business Plan, Business Structure was and there was alot of reccessment. Now, due to the advert on the internet quite a number of MSMEs especially those on the SME Small Medium are now seeing the need to separate their business from themselves and are setting structures but in the entire perspective, structure, setting creation is still low in the Nigerian spectrum.

E PLUS The Storyteller;

Hmmmm...Interesting! So we can clearly say that's where professionals like Angela Itambo fill in the gap as your Brand consistently emphasises the need to take this practice seriously?

Angela Itambo

We do! We bridge the gap between those that don't have structures and those that need structures, however before we can be effective we must be accepted. You cannot go to someone that does not believe in Business Structure and expect the person to accept you. In this part of the world when people now accepted Business Plan, they just connoted that Business Plan was only meant for those who needed funding and that the structures were just on paper. That's why we saw alot of people collecting funds from investor banks and defaulting. Why? Because the presentations to these banks, to show that theu are eligible for funding was just a mere fluke. Now we are in the era where if something is not done, alot of MSMEs, even large organisations will fold up. And there is this popular saying: Failing to plan; is planning to fail, so for us to be relevant there must be a general acceptance of professionals such as myself.

Let me digress, we had clients from outside the country who just for opening a business account, it is mandatory that they send in their Business Plan because their Business Plan is more or less a pictorial demonstration on how the business operates, it shows whether there are structures on ground or not, so we are slowly getting there especially post co-vid where alot of people are saying that money does not solve the problem; it's having proper structures on ground, and we are the doctors that provide this relevance service, thank you.

E PLUS The Storyteller: What's your philosophy in life?

Angela Itambo

When I graduated from the University, over twenty something years ago, I wanted to explore the world. I wanted to be like my father, my mother. I wanted to be that high flying Business Executive. Then I launched my business when I turned thirty, and later on I became a mom. Now, in less than two years, I will be fifty. First and foremost I will not deny, what I just want  is to be at peace with my God, on His good books. I still want to be known all over the world, thanks to social media, known as that Business plan/Business Consultant, because I'm also a Certified Business Mentor with The Prince Charles Youth Initiative and with the Federal Government of Nigeria, so I want to be recognised but not at the pace I wanted to be.

E PLUS The Storyteller:

Any word of advice for entrepreneurs, out there?

Angela Itambo

With regards to business structure, I would like to encourage people that irrespective of what business you own, see your business as a structure that if the foundation isn't right, as a result of persistent climate attack, it will collapse. Your business having structure, is to ensure that whatever happens your business doesn't collapse. And I also want to address the issues of a lot of entrepreneurs, especially from the African side that once a person becomes old or the person dies, that's the end of the business, No! You need to build structure that even when you have no interest in, you can sell, we don't hear alot of people selling their businesses. When I was growing up, in the 80s, there was something called TERIS BURGER, but now where are they? There were burger halls, there were so many striving MSMEs but where are they? They are gone with the wind! That shouldn't happen, and that's why you need structure and when you are preparing structure, your documents, you plan for exit, you plan for succession because there are times our children might not be interested in our businesses but it doesn't mean that, that business must die. Thank you.
